Huawei to enhance developer program in $1.5bn investment

18 Sep 2019

On Wednesday, Huawei announced that it will be working towards improving its developer program, by investing around $1.5 billion throughout the 5 years. In 2015, it had launched the Huawei Developer Program, and it is reported that over 1.3 million developers and 14,000 independent software vendors worldwide, benefitted from their developer.

Deputy Chairman Ken Hu explained how the Chinese giant wants to see more developers making use of their program, whilst speaking at Huawei Connect 2019. The developer program will also be enhanced so to ‘develop the next generation of intelligent applications and solutions.’ Hu said, ‘The future of computing is a massive market worth more than two trillion US dollars…We’ll keep investing.’ Details about the developer program will be elaborated on this Friday. Huawei stated that their investment will not only help the company grow but also boost the industry and help it expand.

The announcement comes at a tough period for the company, as it has been caught in the trade war between the U.S. and China. Earlier this year, the tech giant was listed on the U.S.’s blacklist, restricting several U.S. firms from trading without getting a license beforehand. U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration had deemed Huawei to be a national security threat, despite the Chinese firm repeatedly denied such allegations.
